Section Policy
In Essay an Debate section, essay is an analytical text, bibliographically based, which allows to deepen historical and historiographic aspects in line with the editorial policy of the Journal. The maximum length for an essay will be 13,000 words, approximately 35 pages. This calculation will include text, critical apparatus, summaries and bibliography. The works will be sent through this platform in a file processed in Word in accordance with Author Guidelines.
In the Debate part, the section seeks to promote the historiographic debate around analytical perspectives and theoretical-methodological practices, which contribute to reflection on what it means to think historically, as well as historical and historiographical work. The section can be made up of a minimum of two and a maximum of four original and unpublished essays; which will aim to open a critical dialogue around a certain topic, as well as contribute to the controversy and historiographic problematization. The maximum length for the essays that make up the section will be approximately 20 to 25 pages. This calculation will include the text, critical apparatus, summaries and bibliography. Historia y Grafía publishes the modality of critical review. By “critic” we understand that the review must be a comment referring to the academic and cultural context in which the work is inscribed. The maximum length for a critical review will be 3,000 words, from 6 to 8 pages. This calculation will include the text, critical apparatus, summaries and bibliography. The works will be sent through this platform in a file processed in Word and according to the guidelines indicated in the Author Guidelines.
- A brief presentation of the content of the reviewed work.
- The relevance of the reviewed work and the reason for the importance of preparing the critical review.
- The importance of the topic and the discussion in which it is inscribed, plus the historiographic approach.
- The context of the reviewed book, based on various criteria:
- In relation to the author's work. with the theme.
- In relation to the problem (conceptual, argumentative, referential, ...).
- In comparative terms.
The text of the critical review will be preceded by the bibliographic record of the book under comment.

In memoriam is a brief review in memory of an author or relevant author in the development of the discipline. The guidelines can be found in Author Guidelines.

Documents is a section of the Historia y Grafía magazine in which we bring together various relevant texts both for the study of history and the forms of its writing. Its purpose is to publicize unpublished writings and first-rate sources that support historical research, as well as translations of classic texts that serve to deepen our historiographical knowledge. The objective of the section is to support the work of highlighting unknown materials to develop studies on the past. To this end, the collections of documents that are published will be preceded by an introductory study on their relevance for historical research, as well as editing work that will help the reader to find their way around the pages. The translations will also be preceded by a historiographical introduction that indicates the conditions in which the text emerged, as well as the influence it has had on various aspects of history writing.Works will be sent through this platform in a file processed in Word and in adherence to the Author Guidelines. Only proposals that contain a previous introduction "to the document" and that explain the relevance of its publication in the journal will be received. The proposed texts must also contain notes that allow the reader to become familiar with their content.The introduction will have a maximum length of 5 pages, approximately 2000 words.
The proposals will be submitted to an internal editorial opinion and an external one. In the case of translations of texts published in other languages, their acceptance will depend on the conditions defined by copyright.
