Abstract

In this article, the author aims to analyze to what extent Michel de Certeau's reflection on historiography has been influenced by his study and Hegelian philosophy that he pursued during his formative years as a Jesuit. In particular, this contribution has examined the notion of theodicy, as it is derived from the lessons of the philosophy of history and the phenomenology of the spirit, demonstrating how this notion can represent a useful heuristic category to better understand the meaning attributed by Certeau to the historiographic concept.
